Dear Vamsi, i am basu from karnataka. i am interested in emu forming and gone through your blogs. i understand that emu farming got huge potential and profitable too. i want to know that is there any organized market for emu processing. and where we can sell the eggs and birds. pls guide me in this regard. thanks basu.
  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on April 9, 2012
@basu 4 huge Emu processing units are under construction & will start working within 2 months in AP. These units are ready to acquire approx 3 lac emus per year. they are offering a price of rs.315/- per kg live weight. this price may go upto 500/- within a year. there are 2500 farms all over India as on now and increasing very fast yearly. this process will continue for 5-10 more years. During the egg laying season many agents, old farmers purchase eggs/chicks from any small places.

@samrat mukherjee Emu farming is growing very fast in W.B. U need not make any products from ur farm, just breed the adult birds n sell ur eggs or chciks in ur state itself. U can call me for any market support.

  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on April 21, 2012
@navneet kaur, Emu Farming is growing very fast in your state and also allover north India. Its definitely a good profitable business. Emus can survive in all climatic conditions and any where in our India. Cost of emu chicks varies form place to place, age etc. Minimum investment would be 3 lacs to start with 10 pairs of Emus.

@keval patel, you require a eggs hatching and brooding machine to hatch emu eggs. U can get them from any place(especially in Hyderabad). Normally hen poultry hatching unit manufacturers make this machines too. You may google for more details. You will require a generator also for the same. Machines are fully automated and you dont require any training for the same. You can easily run the machine with ur senior's suggestion even through phone.

Dear Vamshi, Let me know the operational status of vilena emu processing unit in Nuzvidu. So many farmers awaiting for the outcome of this project. If once this unit operational then only we can say it is profitable / loss. If you think Partially still the emu business is not yet profit stage. This is my analysis from last one year. I am taking in to consideration for Andhra pradesh state. Anyway you are giving more value inputs to the forums.
  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on May 12, 2012
@Yogi, Vileena Processing people are informing that they will start trial run by july last week. Other than this unit 3 more processing units are under construction n will start within this year itself. Regarding profit/loss this depends upon many factors. If u call me we can have a good discussion regarding this. Thank u for ur compliment.

@barathirajan, With ur 5lacs u can start a minimum emu farm of 15 pairs. With the same amount if u can get Bank loan u can also start an 50 pairs farm n can also avail NABARD subsidy. For Detailed Project Report u can contact us.

Hi Vamsi, Please let me know about the risk involved, like diseases which might affect the emu's v. frequently and the risk involved, might be any type of infection.
  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on May 21, 2012
@Danny, Emus are very resistant birds. They dont have any diseases maximum. Once it gets any problem we can easily cure and the same will not b carried to other birds. Hence the risk level is very low.

@nakib saiyed, I have mailed u the contact no of vet doctor.

@Vamsi@9246780131, can you please give us contact details of any emu slaughtering unit which is in operation, anywhere in india??
  • Jyothi said on May 24, 2012
    1. In india any market for EMU meat?? i mean people having EMU meat.
    2. What is so special about EMU birds??? which breed of EMU are available in India??
    3. Why EMU farming is booming in india??
    4. As per your previous posts, it requires 1.5-2 yrs to actually make any profit out of this EMU farming
    5. After 2 yrs what all products of EMU including chicks i can sell and how much is the profit per product per pair. is the profit you mentioned includes all the products of EMU per pair or only meat? are there any agencies who buy feathers, leather, nails etc..
    6. since this EMU farming is still in brooding stage its not advisable to sell them to slaughtering. am i right??
    7. Any disease which EMU get which affects their health which in turn business?? which disease needs more and quick attention
    8. Once i start EMU farming till 2 yrs i cannot get any profit out of it, after that i can sell different products of it. So at that point, how can i expand it like buying any machineries like incubators or something like that
    9. Any precautions to be taken while we start or during farming EMU??
  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on May 28, 2012
@RANJAY SHUKLA, U can check at vileenaemu.com for slaughter house details. There are 3 more slaughter houses processing emus of their own farm.

@Jyothi 1.If 1% of non veg population in India starts eating emu meat, we require approx 50,000 emus per month to b slaughtered in India. As the farming is going well by selling to new farmers now, no one r cutting their birds to sell meat. But the people who are slaughtering emu r having very good requirement of emu meat all over India. If u r interested u can start a emu meat stall with 1 emu per week at ur place n make trial. I guarantee u that within a month u require minimum of 50-100 emus per week due to its fat free meat n tasty too.
2.Emu Meat is a red meat with 98% fat free. The oil is separately stored on its back n can b used as pain relievers, cosmetics, hair oil etc. There is only one breed in Emus. All the emus r from Australia n have no different breeds. Some people r just fooling new farmers saying there r 2 n more breeds in emus. I dont agree with them.
3.If we slaughter an emu 98% of it is useful n we can earn with the same(through meat, skin, oil, feathers etc.) Hence its booming not only in India but also in many countries. But due to some fraud people its failed in some states.
4 n 5. After 2 yrs u can get ur own chicks from parent emus. the same chicks can b either sold to new farmers r can b sold to slaughter houses. u need not cut the bird n sell their products separately.
    6. As v r getting good profits by selling chicks itself many r not selling to slaughter houses. but its good to keep 10% of the production for slaughter houses for a better future. 7. Emus r very resistant of disease. Mostly all can b cured with a quick recognition.
    8. As emu farming is in starting stage itself in many places u can buy incubators, feed machine, processing machine etc later with suggestions from well experienced seniors. 9. Check out whether water is drinkable at ur farm place first. If no, u have to fix a RO plant unit.

@vinod Kumar M.G, U can get all ur required answers from my previous postings, pls read r u can call me for detailed picture.

@hari how many birds do you have at your farm, where did u get them? why u wanna sell them? i will buy all your birds and i will contact you after you answer my query
  • RANJAY SHUKLA said on May 28, 2012
@vamsi i asked that question because i read all your 600 postings and i read this vileens's opening from last two years but still its not opened. so i am bit worried about starting of processing unit in india. those other 3 processing unit is using their own birds for slaughtering so its not helpful. we all farmers dont know where we are going cause people all over india has invested lots of money in this farming, but still nothing has come up. so do u really think that processing unit will start up?
  • raangs said on May 28, 2012
@Ranjay, i personally visited Vileena Emu Processing unit 2months back. At that time construction work was going on, and came to know they already imported slaughtering machines. There is no doubt, it will start functioning soon. Whole India Emu Industry is eagerly waiting for that.
  • RANJAY SHUKLA said on May 29, 2012
Raangs thanks for your update about vileena, we all hoping that this unit starts soon. Because I think Indian emu industry is now ready for production of meat. Do you know they will start production as I have registered several times and yet they have not replied any of us

@RANJAY SHUKLA, I am not the owner of Vileena Processing unit. I just passed the info i know to my knowledge. More over to construct a small house takes more time than v expect, starting a unit of more than 15-20 crores is not that fast v think. This may take much more time also due to unavoidable circumstances. Lets hope for the best n soon start of the unit.

@Well-wishers Dear friend in any business all may not success. This depends on manty factors. When i planned to start emu farming in 2008 i met many people n special the people who faced losses in emu farming. Got the complete problems they faced, we planned according to the mistakes done by failure farmers with a good planning of over coming d same n now v n many r in a good success in this field. Any way its good to c ur negative comment so that d new farmers will b more aware n will not do mistakes.

@AYYAPPAN, In 4 cents of land u cant start an emu farming. For a minimum flock of 10pairs emus require 2500 Sft . i hope 4 cents is 1742 sft only. Regarding buying emus u can buy from any places in ur TN, AP, Maharashtra etc.

@saijagan, Pls read all my postings colored in orange color to get complete info about farming, for u have any more further clarifications u can post here or mail me or call me.

@Sudheer, Last year we hav purchased eggs @1200/- to 2000/- depending upon the demand n period of laying. This year also u can expect the same. Worst case 1000/- per egg. If the rates come down also Only the thing is u get less profit but not loss definitely. We purchase eggs/chicks in bulk. As its not eggs season now i cant give u any quotation for price. Pls keep in mind its not the right way to get orders from any one without any Cash advance. Practically think 'in season if the rate hikes u will not sell them in lower rate same way if price slashes the buyer cant buy in high rate. then how can u take quotation for next year?

    @RANJAY SHUKLA,
    Global Incubators:09848276829- Satyanarayn reddy
    Indian Incubators:09177849000- Srikanth
these 2 r from hyd who gives good service also.

@Rajkumar Shaw, U need not wait for export orders for emus, we have good demand in our domestic mkt itself. Many states r starting emu farms newly. In our Ap there r more than 1500 farms n increasing by more than 100 per year. In rest of state many r interested n r growing very rapidly. More over from last one year 90% of new farmers r professionals/ Software engineers. So we can expect fast growth in this farming.

@ganesh, Please read all my postings colored in orange to get complete info about Emu Farming. For Detailed Project Report and book regarding Emu Farming u can call/mail me.

@manjunath v.s, With ur budget of Rs.6 lacs u can start an emu farm of 20 pairs. Emu Farming is growing very fast in karnataka. U can either purchase chicks from ur nearby farm or can get them from AP(We have our own farm too). Regarding marketing there's a good scope of business in ur state itself. There r only below 100-150 farms in ur state, this number will definitely rise to above 1000 farms within 2-3 years. We can also support u for selling ur chciks.

@Bishnu Prasad Pattnaik, @V Bhaskar Total cost for 50 pairs will cost Rs.22 Lacs upto next 2 years. We can guide u in all aspects in Emu farming by preparing u the Detailed Project Report, book, buying/selling emu chicks, infrastructure, training etc. We charge Rs.5000/- for the same and the amount is refundable if u purchase chicks/birds from our own farm in AP.

sir i have 28 pairs of emu birds and how can i insure the birds.
  • Vamsi@9246780131 expert adviser said on August 18, 2012
@ANJANEYULU, U require 250 Sft of land per pair. Calculate according to dis. Regarding complete info pls read all my postings colored in orange.

@Bhaskar Minimum investment is Rs.3 lacs n above depending upon no. of birds u start with. There r many big farm who hav invested in crores too. tell us ur budget to calculate ur farm capacity.

@puneet agrawal In ur land u can start with 100 pairs of emus with ur 50 lacs budget. U can also go with more than 100 pair with support from the bankers. As u r new to this farming my suggestion is to start with only 100 pairs(40 Lacs Project cost). Regarding selling in UP n Delhi, just this year only many have started farms. This will grow very fast within a couple of years n u can easily sell ur chicks to them. If not u can sell ur birds to the slaughter houses going to b started with in this year. We can also support regarding marketing. for more info u can call/mail me.

@subasis patro Cost of the birds, project, profitability depends upon the no.of birds u want start with, their age n many more. tell us ur budget we can suggest u according to that.

@ramchandra reddy Meeru yentha invest cheyyali anukuntunnaru? yenni tho start cheyyali anukuntunnaru? ivanni telisthe nenu meeku sahaya padagalanu..

@Saikiran for 20 pair ur project will cost 6 lacs(approx) till next 2 years.

@manoj r Oriental Insurance n many other insurance co r insuring the birds with 4-8% of the value. But insurance might not b useful as u wont get much mortality after the age of 3 months if u maintain them properly.
