Two Top HudBay Officers Step Down

Two top HudBay officers recently announced that they will be leaving the company soon – much to the disappointment of some company insiders.

After going through some struggle for the chief executive officer position for the HudBay Minerals and gaining victory for it, Peter R. Jones has finally decided to step down and make an exit.

This will formally take place when the year ends according to the announcement that the company issued last Thursday. It’s a different story for the case of Michael Winship, however, because his resignation has been effective as soon as possible.

He was previously employed in the position of chief operating officer and as the HudBay president. Needless to say, both of these announcements for resignation came as a surprise for everyone in the company.

Some observers state that the departure of these two top officers could have negative effects to HudBay Minerals especially in these challenging times. This is not a new occurrence at all, however, because there have also been recent changes in the company’s leadership roster so the company should be prepared for this one.

Actually, this is already marks Jones’ second time to step down because he already did that years ago shortly after replacing Allen Palmiere, in the position as the HudBay chairman. Palmiere, the company’s top executive at the time also resigned due to countless criticisms for his efforts to combine with one of HudBay’s main competitions, Lundin Mining Corp. This time, Jones departs even in the middle of promising projects such as the Lalor Lake development.

Temporarily, Warren Holmes will function as the replacement for Jones until the company hires a new one. Holmes was a former executive for Noranda and Falconbridge and will start functioning as Hudbay’s interim CEO as long as Jones’ position is still vacant. Current HudBay chairman Wesley Voorheis also expressed appreciation for Jones’ leadership and service for his term in the position.
