Wal-Mart Recalls 4.2 Million Durabrand DVD Players

Wal-Mart, the largest retail store in the US, has expanded to more than four million units the recall of its popular Durabrand DVD players after several customers filed complaints that the gadget was prone to overheating that led to damage to properties and fire.

Wal-Mart Store Inc., the largest retail store in the US, announced the expanded recall of more than 4.2 million Durabrand DVD players following a number of reports that said that the device was prone to overheating, even leading to fires and property damage.

The recalled stemmed from seven complaints filed by consumers after their durabrand DVD players overheated and caused fire in their properties. The consumer Product Safety Commission, on the other hand, said no injuries were reported.

The Durabrand DVDs were made in China and was sold in Wal-Mart stores exclusively from January 2006 to July this year.

It will be recalled that Wal-Mart announced the recall of some 1.5 silver colored Durabrand. But as the overheating complaints increase so is the number recalled model. The expanded recalled will include pink and purple colored players.

Those players that would be recalled include silver color players that have UPC 1799901002, model number 1002, pink color DVDs that have UPC 1799934100, model number 1002 PINK, and the purple DVD players that have UPC 1799932100, model number 1002 PUR.

The safety commission said that there would be no replacements for the products but said that Wal-Mart will refund the money of the consumers.
