In 1989 Backyard burger opened its doors to the franchising world and has since made a huge impact on the fast-food market. The business is now available in more than 20 states.

Backyard burgers take the creation of their food very seriously. With their burger patties they use only the best of North American Black Angus Beef and even have a team of professionals discussing the essential ways to raise quality beef produce. It is through the use of 100% Black Angus beef that the company is able to distinguish itself from other hamburger chains. They also offer a vast array of baked potatoes, salads, and even a vegetarian burger as well as several optional side replacements. Initially a drive thru food establishment it is now a fully eat in restaurant that not only offers drive thru but also caters to events and special occasions.

The Back Yard Burgers Inc. is currently seeking franchises nationwide and there are several territories still available for franchise. The territory size is 50,000+ populations. The cost and fees for the franchise include the total investment of $1,000,000 to $2,000,000, the initial franchise fee of $25,000 with an ongoing royalty fee of 4% and a term of agreement which is renewable after 10 years.

The qualifications for the franchise include a net worth requirement of $750,000 with a cash liquidity requirement of $500,000. Business Experience required is basic industry experience, general business experience and basic marketing skills. Current operations are that 60% of all franchisees own more than one unit and the minimum number of employees needed to run a franchised unit is 35. Absentee ownership of franchise is not allowed and currently 90% of current franchisees are owners or operators.

Upon approval of the initial application for franchise the franchise owner will be called to training at the company headquarters for 6 weeks. Training will continue at the franchisee’s location for 2 weeks and ongoing support will be given throughout the franchise operation of the franchise owner. This ongoing support is inclusive of the regular newsletters and meetings with the support team as well as other franchise owners, the toll free phone line which is available 24 hours a day to cater to the inquiries of franchise owners, assistance at the grand opening of the establishment, internet and online support, security and safety procedures, field operations and evaluations and purchasing cooperatives. The Marketing support provided by the franchise includes ad slicks, co-op advertising, regional advertising and the national media. Other marketing support includes LMS consultant.
