Wal-Mart to Hire 22,000 Workers

Retail store giant Wal-Mart Inc announced it will hire more than 22,000 workers in the country before the year ends in an effort to boost its profit amid weak economy that is hurting most retail businesses in the US.

Meanwhile, the company said that most of the job hiring will be on the retail operation such as store managers, salespeople, cashiers, and pharmacists.

In line with its ambitious plan to expand its business despite weak economy, retail store giant Wal-Mart Inc announced it will hire more than 22,000 workers in the country before the year ends.

In a statement, Wal-Mart said most of the job hiring will be on the retail operation such as store managers, salespeople, cashiers, and pharmacists.

Despite this massive hiring, Wal-Mart posted slower growth in the first and second quarter and said that it will open fewer chains in 2009 compared to previous years.

In 2008, the retail giant opened new chains which generated more than 33,000 jobs across the US.

According to reports, Wal-Mart executives said the company is expecting slower growth due to the ongoing recession, adding that they are focusing more on expanding their existing chains than creating new ones.

Meanwhile, compared to other retail giants including Macy’s Inc and Target Corp which have previously announced massive job cuts, Wal-Mart has managed to cushion the slumping sales and weak consumer confidence by offering discounted and cheaper products to lure people into buying these.

Amid Wal-Mart’s massive hiring, economists in the US said the labor market will lose approximately 520,000 nonfarm payroll jobs next month.
