Tips to Resist Commercials
Commercials can be very convincing. How many times have you tried products just because you've watched the commercial? There are even times when you're able to prove that the products are not that effective.
If this is the case, then you will need to resist commercials. It can be hard at first but you can introduce some changes gradually.
Why is it that commercials are very convincing? Have you ever experienced buying something that you don’t really need just because you’ve seen the product’s commercial? If you’re wondering how you can resist commercials, this article may be able to help you out. To begin with, turn off the television and radio. The fact is, most people watch television everyday. This is already part of their daily routine and so it can be hard to put an end to a regular habit.
However, if you truly want to resist commercials, you need to keep away from the TV. If you love to watch certain television shows and you can’t say no to this daily activity, try to ‘mute’ the TV especially during commercials. For instance, when the TV show takes a break, press ‘mute’ on the remote control and go to the kitchen to drink water or get some snacks. By doing so, you will not be able to watch the commercial. If you can do this gradually, congratulate yourself. Now, another thing that you have to do is to sort out your stocks at home. Determine what you have, the things you’ve already used, and the unused ones. When you go out to shop, buy only the necessities and bring a list of the stocks you have at home so that you can minimize your purchases.
Being a Wise Consumer
Conduct some research. Heavy promotions are common these days and such marketing efforts can drive in more sales. However, these things should not affect your buying decision. By doing some research, you will be able to identify the effective products from the poor ones. As a wise consumer, you should not base your purchases solely on the commercials you see. Well of course the manufacturer or company will not use ugly models or show negative things about their product – the commercials will always be positive to draw more attention.
When you listen to the radio, turn the volume down during commercials and keep yourself pre-occupied with other things. Divert your attention to other things around you when it’s time for the commercials. When surfing the internet, don’t mind the banner ads you see and just focus on what you’re doing. Commercials are hard to ignore but if you can train yourself to disregard them, it will be easier to make wise purchases. This will also help you in saving money since you will be buying only the things you need. Resist commercials now.
