I am trained in mushroom cultivation, worked in a large scale farm as farm manager and run a button mushroom business in Ooty, South India, for the past 12 years. Better it is done in medium(250 kgper day) to large (More than 1000 kg per day) by individuals / companies. It is a very tricky business, requires high capital/inventory management(90 days cycle time/power/labour. Above all if the owner can spend time in the business directly it can be made a success. If the location is slightly at a higher altitude of 5500 + feet above sea level or a temperate climate of 15-17 deg C, it is very conducive for the process and cost of production can be lower. If all criteria satisfied, the product is highly perishable. Better that you have a market which can absorb that days production.
