@Deshpande Neeta , Sangli. Hi Neeta go for a small cafeteria with indian food Snacks, lunch and dinner. if you want to invest less make up standing tables and start up thali system or combi food but i would still prefer if you can make up a sitting area with nice music open air kind of stuff serve hukka also this helps to reduce cost and add variety in your business. College kids love hukka so keep that with some virgin drinks (no alcohol. hope you like the idea and concept. If interested in detail u can add me on FB or mail me i will surly reply back.

@sravanthi, sravanthi wat help is required please tell.

hi. need some help and expert advice. I had partnered a restaurant with a friend of mine about 3-4 months ago. i was to do all the investment and my partner was supposed to operate and work out the actual business. we operated for about a month and then fell apart because of working differences. as an investor i had different set of expectations and work wasnt happening to plan and in the end i had to work and get involved personally. Now the partnership is dissolved and i am left with a restaurant space, a full fledged kitchen, all equipments that you need to run a decent functioning outlet and also an investment of 14L that is almost down the drain. I can either quit and leave and survive with loses or try to run the same. i am thinking on trying out before i shut shop. i am based in delhi and have the restaurant at Bhikaji cama. we had intended to specialise in mughlai and chinese and there is a huge martket for lunch, take aways and corporate parties. would somebody be interested in helping me in any capacity? my rents are on and i have to do something fast. imbashir@yahoo.co.nz

Hi Parvinder. I have laid my hands on an excellent, authentic moghlai cook. Looking forward to start an eating joint either in Indore or kolkata. Which city looks better to you. And what are the basic steps to begin with.
  • Parv Walia novice adviser said on November 2, 2011
@Khalid Zaheer calcutta would be preferred one as compare to indore rental will be more over same as both cities are under development but Kolkata is more developed, more population, income is more, so spending power will be there. Indore is the city known for lot of small food shop counters. SO go for calcutta as investment risk will be less in high paying city.

    parvinder.walia@gmail.com

  • Parv Walia novice adviser said on November 2, 2011

@khalid zaheer, Basic steps depends on your investment plan small counter and take away can run business in setting but a top restaurant needs all license so it depends what u want to do.

    parvinder.walia@gmail.com

  • khalid zaheer said on November 2, 2011
Thanks for the reply. I am planning for a very clean and hygienic eating joint but not very high ambiance, of course the basics would be there like furniture (seating arrangement), AC etc. 30-35 people can eat at a time.
  • Parv Walia novice adviser said on November 2, 2011

@khalid zaheer, Take license for that, Ensure space can be used for restaurant, good paying capacity in surrounding, Should be visible on high traffic road with parking as no issue for people, Start mughlai with chinese cooks can range from 7000 to 10000. Helpers will be 4000 to 6000. make a concept with less power consumption theme. Try saving cost maximum. Let me know any other help required.

@ramu it will be costly if you do it in KL as traditional things are not cheap in KL. U can paint walls or use designer chicks made up of wood sticks. by pasting them to the walls with braso show piece.

  • Parv Walia novice adviser said on November 24, 2011

@Jayan, food cost calculation, lobour cost calculation, menu planning. In this industry cost vary as per food item depends on you how effectively you run your business average cost shd not increase more than 35% BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY HIDDEN COST WHICH PEOPLE DONT SEE. So when ever you want you can mail me your doubts. Labour depends on you how much you want to pay. Some time we pay more to those people who doesnt look important (like dish washer takes more than kitchen helper)

@desh raj ji your plan is wrong please dont invest in any asian country apart from india. Thai or Malaysia the reason is this business require population people who can eat indian food. So business wont be good secondly your labor cost will be high. apart from india asian countries run on 3 thing cheap W, W, F. So you wont find break even.

@Vee, hi, for the startup of an Indian Restaurant, u need to segregate into North Indian, South Indian & Indian Fast food sections. In a North Indian, the cuisine is more of wheat based, hence Tandoor, Grill & Punjabi / Avadhi cuisine w/- curries can be provided. For a south Indian Kitchen, it is more rice based w/- Steam Cooking - Idly, Sambar & Rice + veg curries. Fast food section would req shallow fryers & deep fat fryers + ovens - salamander & microwave apart from that is storage area & pre-preparation area, with its Storage shelving / racks & bins + preparation tables & gen furniture. A bar has a standard range of Liquor Stores shelving & bottle racks + display counter & Bar counter w/- seating. Dining space & furniture depends on seating capacity + no of covers u'r planning - type 1 sit down dining, type 2 - buffet, type3 - take-away, etc

@vee, After you snare the right permits, decide whether to start from scratch or fix up an existing eatery. Depending on how fancy your new place is, a blank-slate approach will set you back $100,000 to $300,000 for stuff like industrial cooking and ventilation equipment, refrigerators, freezers, tables, bar stools, shelving and counters with stations for cutting, heating and cooling. Renovating an existing restaurant with a similar concept will cost less, though the rent may be comparatively higher because the value of the previous build-out is already baked in.

Hi, I am looking forward to open a Restaurant offering both Veg & Non- Veg ( thinking of starting with a Take-away) in Chandigarh. The joint will sell primarily North Indian Cuisine only. Need to get info on:
    1. What all types of Licenses are required?
    2. List of Equipments, Utensils etc?
    3. What would be the approximate fund required for such a start up?
    4. What Menu to keep and how to do the pricing?
    5. Should a competitive pricing be kept or a lil lower to start off with?
    6. How much area would be required keeping in mind if a takeaway is to be started?
    7. What kind of a name to take for the take-away keeping in mind that a restaurant would also be run in the same name after some time?
Looking forward for some insights from the experienced people here. I can be reached at dullu_amit@yahoo.co.in. Rgrds, Amit

i am a graduate from IHM bangalore and worked previously with dominos which is food retail as restaurant manager and then worked abroad with a high profile club as a asst manager . Now i want to start up my own restaurant with bar in mumbai between malad to andheri ,highest choice being malad since majorly untapped with very high number of bpo's and malls and basically larger number of group with high income and less competition as andheri and bandra are plagued with major players i have a capital of 40 lakhs .. please let me know about the total start up cost including licenses , equipments , interiors ,considering ground floor to be a restro having north indian cuisine , tandoor , and upper deck to be a bar lounge
