Hello all, I'm considering starting a fish farm on 7 acres of land near Prescott, Arizona. I have no training in the subject of fish farming, However a family member is wondering who he or any of us can use the land for a profit.

I watched a documentary on telly a few weeks ago on fish farming, trout in particular. I know most of the restaurants in Prescott, Flagstaff, and Phoenix have trout on their menus, so an organic trout farm within a 1 hours drive from these locations would be a profitable venture if the location is indeed suitable for fish farming conditions.

We have a very good well that I think there is enough water to flood an area of 26,500 square meters 20ft deep, that's 6.7 acres flooded 20ft deep, I think the permit is for 3.2 million gallons a year but that can be increased to 5 million.

Funding is not that much of a problem. I’m confident I could get at least $250,000. I'm hoping to start a much smaller operation than that though. I would like it to be organic. If indeed that is possible.

There is also scope to purchase a further 8.2 acres on the plot next to mine.

I would like to know if anyone could give me advice on:- How much the likely equipment would cost. The amount of ponds and the volume of fish that I could harvest on land totaling 7 acres. The foods that would be best. The best breeds of fish, suitable for the Arizona climate.

Also any info you think will be useful. I'm currently living near Cardiff in Wales if there are any trout farms near that would allow me to volunteer my time help out with anything with a view to learn more about the industry please contact me. Thanks
