@janardhanreddy, @rashmi for startup of any kind bookstore the very basic criterias to self-define are
    1. understand the basics of market that is to be catered along with demand supply pattern
    2. investment size
    3. basic inventory size/nature
    4. small or mid or big size sales and customer service policy
based on above and some discussion specific inputs can be given, anil

  • anil beginner adviser said on August 3, 2013

@hariprasad. congratulations for being with books and for being successful in a very short period. generating capital including for pub will be tough task. since you are running successful book business it means you can divert the profit margins as capital for publishing. alternatively you have make a business plan including the strength of book business success and pitch it for loan/investors.

as a startup there are investors who show interest. so long the "good books" are concerned it is very broad category. so understand your genre and market of interest accordingly draw narrow line. so all the best and meanwhile any queries come, drop a line.

I am a South African and I want to start a chain of book stores that are selling African books in South Africa. There is a myth in South Africa that there are a few books written in African languages, meanwhile there are millions of them. Most bookshops here do not want to take our books saying there is no market for them, on the other hand, middle class parents, school, learners, academics, are looking for these books and cannot source them from any book store. Can someone out there help with funding this idea. I already have a small publishing company and I want to extend it to a bookshop which will start in the main big cities and expand slowly and slowly.

Dear Sir, I am a graduate engineer having served the industrial sector over a decade. I have returned to my hometown in Agartala ( Capital Town of the State of Tripura in Northeast India). I intend to start a small book shop in my area. I have approx 340 sq ft shop on a main road of the town. I conducted a survey on the number of schools available within 1 -2 km radius from my proposed place for the shop. It was revealed that there exists 3 kindergarden schools , 4 high schools & a college. Further it was noted that not a single book shop existed in between my proposed store and the stated schools. Thus it primarily seems sense to open up a book shop. The puzzles i am now facing is how do i start the store? Who are the reliable distributors? What will be the minimum start up cost etc etc. Could you please advice me in this regard. With Regards Nabendu
