Top Apparel Firm A&F files lawsuit against Beyonce over Perfume Copyright

Abercrombie and Fitch sued singer/actress Beyonce Knowles over perfume label, saying that they have the trademark over the “Fierce” perfume line since 2003.

The launching of the popstar’s “Sasha Fierce” perfume was also put on hold after A&F filed the lawsuit.

One of the most popular mid-level apparel companies in the United States has filed a lawsuit against top R ‘n B singer Beyonce Knowles over her plans to launch a perfume label called “Sasha Fierce,” saying that the company has the copyrights for the perfume “Fierce”.

According to reports, the launching was put on hold by Beyonce’s camp due to the lawsuit.

The reports also told that Beyonce has filed a copyright application at the US Patent and Trademark Office in September 2008 for her “Sasha Fierce” perfume line. However, A&F said that they have the right over the patent, claiming that they have been selling the “Fierce” since 2002 before they filed for trademark for the said fragrance in 2003.

Sasha Fierce is Beyonce’s alter ego.

Meanwhile, the Ohio-based teen apparel retailer has asked the court to immediately order the singer to halt the launching of the “Sasha Fierce” perfume, which they claimed violated the trademark of its own men’s fragrance called “Fierce”.

Based on records, A&F made more than $190 million worth of sales in its fragrance line and is expected to make some $64 million in 2009.
