I am in my mid 50s and have worked for the last 15 years in marketing communications where I run a team of 35 and a budget of over £10m. I am now looking to set up a care home for the active elderly in or around St Albans. I am a good team motivator, commercially savvy and full of common sense but I lack the premises or funding. I would be interested to hear from a builder/entrepreneur who would like to partner with me in this enterprise. Thanks

I live in Tulsa Okl. I am 23yrs old I started working in a nursing home at the age of 17yrs. After 4yrs i changed my career. Making double salary. I recently felt that i needed to return to the health care field because i felt I can make a difference in people lives. So i decided to take a pay cut. I presently work at a nursing home once again. But i have noticed a lot of residents are unhappy and lonely and all they really want is someone they can trust and to show them that they care. I believe i can establish an environment that is ran out of a house for the homely feeling with nothing but a few residents so they have more one on one attention. I really want to succeed at this plan but i do not know where to start or rather or not i should try to further my education and get more extensive schooling?

Hi everyone. Care home business outside UK or USA is entirely different. First, you have to consider if people in your place can afford the fees you will charge. In the UK, it comes in different payment scheme such as, fully funded by government, half funded by govt. or fully paid by the patient/client. Each patient/client's needs will be assessed by a Local Council Staff(either residential or nursing needs) then the fees will depend on these needs. Furthermore, you need to have insurance in order to run the business, a place fully equipped with care home equipments, qualified staff to look after the clients/patients and of course MONEY. A nursing home needs a home manager and Qualified nurses. Residential home only need a Senior healthcare staff(not necessarily Nurse) as the in charge and the rest are healthcare assistants.

Hello, I am a RN managing a long term care unit in a 3 year old facility in Canada. I also have a great deal of experience in the construction industry having designed & built half a dozen homes. I have a passion & knowledge for design and architecture as well as caring for the less fortunate and vulnerable. Now with the baby boomers coming into retirement, the Canadian government is saying that we are not prepared to care for the large number of seniors who will require long term placement in the very near future. It has always been a dream of mine to build and operate a "smaller scale" nursing home...approximately 16 - 25 beds. I have a perfect site in mind but have no idea where to begin. I feel that there is a great demand for this now with nursing home bed shortages already. Even though this has been a long time dream for me...Is there any profit to be made? Any info which you may be able to provide to me as far as start up in Canada, licensing, cost start up etc...would be greatly appreciated....thank you.

I'm 21 years old & I'm a cop in the Air Force. I would like to start building my way up to owning my own nursing home. My goal is to start saving the money now and by the time I get out of the military in 4 1/2 years to own start my nursing home. I am planning on cross-training to be a Physician's Assistant while I have the tuition assistance from the military. Before coming in I worked at a nursing home in Barling, AR. I loved it so much and miss my residents. I would love to be able to take care of people again. Any advice?!
