Planes Pile Up as Less People Travel

Planes continue to pile up inside the airlines’ storehouse as more travelers postpone their business and vacation flights and prefer to stay home to avoid spending money as incomes become more dispensable nowadays due to recession.

Meanwhile, aerospace company Ascend Worldwide said that more than 2,300 planes were in storage and some of these are already deteriorating.

The airline industry recently reported that more unused and deteriorating planes were piled inside its storehouse as more travelers postpone their business and vacation flights in line with their belt-tightening measure amid financial slowdown.

According to aerospace company Ascend Worldwide, more than 2,300 planes were in storage and this number is expected to rise as travelers continue to decline worldwide. Meanwhile, 930 planes in storehouse were from US airline operators alone.

Ascend Worldwide said that some planes will be sold in one piece while some will be scrapped. But because of the continuous pile up of passenger airplanes, the company said that some will be left in desert facilities in New Mexico, California, and Arizona. Most airline companies choose these places as a cheaper way to store their planes since the Southwestern part of US has a dry climate that preserve aircrafts—unlike in humid places—thus, allowing the companies to retrieve these once the travel market is in bloom.

Meanwhile, some airline owners believe that 90 percent of these planes will be needed again next year when the economy is expected to bounce back from recession.

To make sure that planes will not easily deteriorate, these are tested and run for every couple of weeks. These stored aircraft are also towed in a regular basis so the tires will not sit on the same spot which may result to unevenness.
