Goji Berries Gardening Tips

Interested now to plant goji berries? Goji berries are planted as seeds. You can find gardening companies on the Net that sell seeds. Some of them ship out dormant plants in the winter so that they’d be ready for planting in the spring. As said, you can plant them in pots or in your backyard. If you plant them in pots, just make sure to bring them out for sunlight. But you also have to regulate their exposure to sunlight as too much of it could also be damaging to the plant.

As to the type of soil, you can use medium grade soil as long as it is well-drained. When fertilizing, use organics to increase their value as health food. And if they’ve been in a pot for a year or so, you must change the soil to replace the nutrients that have bee used up. It usually takes two years before they start to flower and grow fruits. If they are planted in pots, you have to make them pollinate when they are ready. During fruiting, your enemies will be wasps that eat up the fruit. You can put the fruits in very fine nets to protect them from insects.

Uses of Goji Berries

You can harvest your goji berries and prepare it as fresh juice or dry them for use in soups. Usually, goji berries are cooked before eating. Or, you can blend its fresh juice with other juices. Its leaves can also be brewed to make tea. The market for goji berries is growing and it is expected to become a multi-billion dollar industry. It is not such a far-off idea to want to grab the opportunity to make goji berry a full-scale business and start a farm now as goji berries can be used to make beer, wines, coffee and tea.
