Types of Motivation in Business

Motivation in business helps not only the owners but also the workers in striving to reach success.

In business, you will encounter several obstacles in order for you to reach success.

Along the way to success, you may find it hard to continue when you face hindrances. This is when motivation comes in. Its purpose is to keep you going.

In business there are actually a lot of types of motivation. The following are some of the types of motivation in business:

  • Investment motivation – owners should not only invest their money and expect their employees to be productive. Owners should also be emotionally and if possible, physically invested in the business. If the employees see their boss mingling with them, they would also invest emotionally and physically. Investing is a great factor that will affect the efforts you exert in order for your business to reach success. If you invest a huge amount of capital, you would probably don’t want to end up being unsuccessful that is why you will not mind if you work late at night just to make your business successful.
  • Self-Improvement Motivation – most of the time, the physical appearance of a person reflects his workmanship. If a person looks good, his workmanship would also probably be good too. Self-improvement doesn’t only mean that someone should improve his physical appearance but also his personality. It is not enough to just look good, it is also necessary to be good.
  • Consistency motivation – this refers to the moral or values consistency of a certain task. In business, all people should work hard in order to reach goal. It will be unfair to everyone if someone does not contribute to the betterment of the organization. Having a good reason in doing a task will keep people in doing what is good for the company.
  • Extrinsic motivation – other people refer to this as the reward and punishment motivation. Owners should recognize the good workmanship of their employees by giving them incentives or rewards. Employees strive hard to do their job that is why owners should also strive hard in keeping their employees on doing what they are doing. Owners should consider performance appraisal to give prizes to employees who work hard and show a good performance in doing his or her job. This reward can be in form of money, material, or other goods that an employee might enjoy.
  • Reactive or free will motivation – this is associated with extrinsic motivation. An owner should not push too hard on an employee to do good work. Employees should have the willingness of doing the work. Forcing someone to do a task is not ideal for it might turn the other way around; having bad results.

In business, it is always important to keep a harmonious relationship between the owners and the employees so that they will work together smoothly.
