Online Hackers Target Businesses

A recent report shows that online hackers have started using popular social networking sites and other online properties such as Facebook, MySpace, Multiply, Twitter, and Linkedln to attack companies.

According to software company Sophos, 25 percent of businesses have been victims of online hackers who steal sensitive data and employee’s identity.

With online hackers becoming more sophisticated and aggressive, one-fourths of businesses have become victims of online threats such as phishing, spam, malware, and virus, according to software company Sophos.

In its recent survey, Sophos also found that 63 percent of corporate systems administrators are concerned that employees are sharing and revealing too much information not just about themselves but also about their companies which makes sensitive data at risk of unauthorized access.

The company also said that online hackers have started using popular social networking sites and other online properties such as Facebook, MySpace, Multiply, Twitter, and Linkedln to attack businesses and companies.

Sophos said that employees, especially those who are frequent users of social networking sites, put their company’s data in high risk of online attacks which aim to steal corporate information and user’s identities and to spread malware and spam.

In an interview, Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley said that online hackers who steal email login information put the users at risk since most of them are using the same passwords in other accounts such as Facebook, Amazon, eBay, PayPal, and other online banks.

On Thursdays, Facebook was attacked by online hackers who sent messages to users and redirect them to a dummy site using a link. If a person clicks the link message, the dummy site will ask him to type his login information and then hackers will have a control of his account.
