In an effort to grab a much larger share of the holiday spending, online discount firm Groupon Inc. on Thursday said it plans to launch much bigger, ticket items this year as the company ramps up its business following its initial public offering.

In 2010, Groupon has launched its first holiday shopping deal, focusing on smaller and easy-on-the-pocket offers in 15 cities across the United States.

But this year, the company aims to offer its so-called “Epic Deals” starting November 15 in 41 cities in the US and Canada – including Los Angeles, New York and Dallas.

Groupon said that big ticket items will include once in a lifetime experiences, which include a trip a round the world, as well as cooking class and group dinner with Chef Todd English.

It also plans to offer discounts on electronic, home goods and fitness products.

Groupon, popular with its big discount offers, was highly criticized by its loyal customers after going public early this year. The company raised $700 million in an IPO that valued it at $15 billion.

Many analysts expressed belief that a big holiday sale this year is a crucial period for the company and it would help them to back up its shares.

But they also said that it would be rather a challenge for Groupon as more established e-commerce firms are also offering daily deals.
