    I inherited about 200has. of sugarcane land (hacienda) in prime locations in Victorias City and Sagay City. But, having grown up in the States, I have NO idea how to start planting. Both haciendas are being leased out right now, with contracts ending in March 2013. I was wondering if anyone could give me a crash course on sugar planting for beginners? preferably in Bacolod area. I'm willing to pay a fair tutorial fee per session. thank you. cyang316@yahoo.com
  • mrs.j said on November 5, 2012
    follow up question: is it better to just continue leasing the land or actually planting my own crops...as I said before, I have absolutely NO idea how all those world, and no one here to guide me. thanks in advance!
  • nathaniel l. dulaca beginner adviser said on November 16, 2012

    follow up answer @mrs.j, probably you are leasing it for 15000 max is 20000 per year ,no worries but you are paying the taxes ,option 2 cultivating the land budget at least 50,000 per hectare, with good cultivation at least you have net of 60 tons deducted the milling expenses for example sugar sweetness 1.88 lkg/t x 60 =112.6 bags of sugar ,last week sugar price in negros 1280 pesos per bag , 112.6x 1280=144,128 pesos ,plus molasses ,plus allowances.your money almost triple per cropping. just an eye view mrs.j to help you decide @nathaniel l. dulaca, your land areas are very accessible to milling sites ,less expense on hauling of your sugarcane.

    @Talha. you can't really plant sugar cane in Canada. It's way to cold there. However, you can plant sugar beets or market your own granulated sugar for sale in Canada, but considering the business giants in the North American area you most likely won't make as much money as you hope. You can give it a try anyway though, stranger things have happened!

    @anil gupta: the parameters are:
    1. have the soil analyzed if it is suitable for planting sugarcane crop. Are there soil laboratories in your place?
    2. Is the area flat? No large boulders in the fields?
    3. Type of soil. Irrigation source.
    4. Are there enough labor force to do manual cultivation during rainy season when your tractors cannot cultivate?
    5. Are there sugar mills to deliver your canes during harvest season?
    6. How will you transport your canes, by trucks/trailers or trains?
    These are the initial steps then your operating costs per acre fields. You have to secure a bank loan to operate on the first year since you have to wait for the canes to mature and mill it. You need a fleet of big tractors depending how big the area of each field. I hope i answered the basics before starting a sugarcane plantation. My email add: jeracu@yahoo.com

    You can start sugarcane farming with zero budget farming: this means with natural farming, grow sugarcane with vegetables, pulses, nuts etc., (how trees grow in forests. Use cow urine and cow dung in place of urea and pesticides. With one cow we can harvest 20 acres easily. I started doing this. mail.me for any information. I am from India harvesting sugarcane with zero budget farming using cow urine and cow dung.

    For sugarcane to yield much it depend with the variety you are growing along side soil type. It's not that once you are in sugarcane enterprise you have make money. Variety of sugarcane plus management as well as area you are growing. Most people say I want an investor investor whilist there are technical inefficient. Good yields are achievable. 180 to 200 tonnes per ha it is quite achievable as the crop needs maintenance just a newly-born baby.
