Contrary to what most of us know, it is not just the interviewee who must be prepared during an interview but also the interviewer. Being a two way process, it is expected that both parties will cooperate and participate to ensure success of an interview.

For this matter, employers must also know how to interview employees properly in order to properly select the individuals who deserve to be part of your company and will contribute to its success.

Correct process of interview will also mean that the workers that you will choose are also of their best calibers. If questions are asked properly, chances are you will also be able to find the best candidate that suits for that position. But, when your interviewing skills are not good enough, there is a great risk of you giving the job to someone who is not fit for the job.

The Art of Interviewing

The talented and skilled workers will always fight over each other just so they can land on a position in your company. The process of having to hire employees that are highly qualified is a kind of art that also calls for some skills. As an interviewer, you are expected to be one good listener. You must also be good in redirecting the conversation. It is also expected of you to know how to identify applicants who just wants the job from those perfect ones who will surely do the job. And even if the present state of market comes with ups and downs, when you know how to interview employees, you will surely land on the best ones.


Being prepared can be somewhat obvious. However, most hiring managers fail to review the paperwork of the candidate before the interview itself. You must know that when you review the resume only when you are in front of your interviewee, the action will not just show you as rude but also as someone who is disorganized and has a poor preparation.

Tone Setting

When tone setting is concerned, make sure that you will let your candidate aware that you feel gladness in meeting them. Aside from this, express genuine appreciation for the applicant’s time of coming to the interview. Let the candidate know the flow of the interview and stick to the format as much as possible.

The Interview Flow

Never underestimate the importance of having several questions prepared even before the interview is conducted. Your company’s department on human resource might already have prepared set of questions which can serve as your guide. Most of the time, the busy managers forget until it is too late the things that they must ask. Open ended questions might be asked and also those which call for responses that are more detailed. Make sure that you will intently listen to each answer for every question. Also, you can make some nice mix of questions such as those which will give you insights about the applicant’s behavior, elicit some opinion, demonstrate different experiences and reveal the background of the applicant. Once the interview is done, you must already have a good sense of the likes as well as dislikes of a person, together with their weaknesses and strength.
