What are considered healthy foods? What kind of food should be stored in your kitchen?

Having a healthy body comes from a healthy eating lifestyle. Preparing your food needs to be well planned, you do not just cook and eat the food; you need to know what you are eating and how you are eating it. Healthy eating lifestyle is not only meant on what food is placed on your platter.

Healthy Eating Lifestyle Tips

  • Avoid eating in front of the television, often times it leads to stuffing your self or overeating.
  • Make sure that you take the important meal of the day – breakfast.
  • Practice not to eat late at night, as your metabolism is slow at this time of the day.
  • Chew your food well and moderately.
  • Pay attention when you are feeling hungry, instead of eating 3 large meals a day, try eating 5 small ones.
  • Along with food it is best to maintain the practice of drinking plenty of water per day. It is recommended that we drink at least 3 liters of water to be hydrated each day.
  • Avoid drinking carbonated drinks
  • Food supplements alone cannot sustain your bodies need for minerals, vitamins and nutrients. It is good to eat at least eat one servings of fruits and vegetables per meal.
  • The more colorful the foods that your are eating , the more you are sure that you are eating the right kind of food
  • Avoid eating refined grains: cereals, bread and pasta but instead eat whole wheat breads, barley or brown rice
  • Eating food with high fiber is good for the digestive system, stabilizes your blood sugar
  • Avoid eating food with saturated and trans fats that is found in red meat, candies, junk foods, dairy products but instead eat Monounsaturated fats rich in omega 3 that helps prevent heart disease
  • Eat food high in calcium and vitamin D for healthy teeth and bones
  • Limit intake of sugar as it may cause diabetes and salt resulting to kidney problems
  • Minimize eating processed food and food from fast food stores.
  • Practice cooking food at home rather than buying from restaurants
  • Plan what food you will be buying from grocery stores, making a “things to buy list” is recommended
  • Do not deprived your self from eating but instead try to reduce your food intake
  • Check on the nutritional facts of the food, usually found at the back part of the label
  • Do not forget to have a regular exercise or being engaged in activity is also part of having a healthy lifestyle

Following these tips does not deprive you from eating your favorite food or doing the things that you do not enjoy. A healthy body comes from a balanced diet.
