Starting a Handmade Jewelry Business

Creativity and uniqueness are the two things that you must have when establishing a handmade jewelry business. This business can be very profitable to you if your products are unique, high quality, and very beautiful.

The pieces of jewelry you will make must stand out from your competitors and in a crowd.

The Starting Point

The first that you should consider if you are thinking of starting a handmade jewelry business in your home is the knowledge and creativity you have in making jewelry. Most people can absolutely string beads on cords and add some designs on it and finish a beautiful bracelet or necklace. However, that sets the real problem because almost all people can do that. So, if you want your handmade jewelry business to be successful then you handmade designs must be unique and exceptional in looks and also in quality. They must stand out from your competitors in order to sell and attract more customers.

The jewelry that you should make must be more complex to make and much better quality than others can produce. Your products must have unique components, have more complex designs, have more expensive parts, or whatever you think can make your jewelry more special. Keep in mind that an ordinary jewelry is not attractive to customers anymore. You can also do wire sculpting. This may differentiate your work from others. The designs of your wire sculpting can be very plain or very complicated. You just need some practice to perfect the process and it will be worth your time, effort, and money.

Start-up Tools and Equipment

Starting a handmade jewelry business cannot take up a huge space nor requires many tools and equipments. For starters, you only need some pairs of pliers, ruler, wire cutters, and cloth for polishing. Round-nose pliers are necessary for making wire wrapping and loops, bent-nose pliers are needed for all types of things. The chain-nose pliers are used for opening things like jump rings while crimping pliers are for closing those crimp beads. There are also the nylon-flat nosed fliers used for straightening bent wires. The mentioned tools are just for starters and as you go along the business, you will need additional tools for designing your jewelry.

Establishing a handmade jewelry business can be difficult especially if your creativity is limited. This is why, people who have endless creativity and positive attitude are the ones that must engage in this kind of business because as you go along there will be a lot of changes and upgrading of designs so those who are in the business and keep on producing the same designs of jewelry over and over again failed to continue and close their business.

My name is Bplanle, I live in Nigeria,Ogun state to be precise. I already started a handmade jewellery business in my home but wanna move it out of my home for privacy and better advert reasons. I intend using the office space I get for some other things plus creating a section for my kids(an eight year old boy and a 6 year old girl),where they can be comfortable after school hours. I am very creative and would adjust as handmade jewellery improves. What other thing do you think I can add to jewellery making that wouldn't need much space? Though, I intend to sell materials and tools for handmade jewellers considering the fact that there are many here in my state. I make more of copper wire jewelleries though bcs there's a lot one can do with wires combined with beads. I'll await a response from you. Thanks
