Becoming a Model

A model is often associated with being sexy and glamorous. However, most people are not aware that it's a grueling and competitive business. This profession can make or break so you need to be extra careful.

You need to be aware of the hard truths so that you can achieve your dream.

What type of model do you want to become? The answer to this question is very important because there are some qualities that you need to possess to become a model. In general, a model should reflect good health. You will need to have clear skin, overall symmetry, and healthy hair. The height also plays an important role as well as weight but it will depend on the type of model you want to become. It is a good idea to work with a fitness instructor so that you can condition your physical body.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements to becoming a model but it will depend on the type. If you don’t qualify, the work opportunities can be limited as the business is extremely competitive. For those with curvaceous and full body, being a plus-size model is an excellent choice. For tall women (with height of 5’7” to 5’8”) who are skinny and with small-sized breasts, catwalk modeling is the best option for you. If you have large breasts and wide hips, you can become a model for underwear. Just in case you don’t qualify in terms of body and face descriptions, you can still become a model for the hand, hair, or foot. Examine your physical looks. If you think you will look great in lingerie or swim suit, just go ahead and apply for it.

Take photos and prepare them. Snapshots should be well focused like a body or head shot. The photos need to be at least 8x10 in size. Ask a professional photographer to take your picture because this can be a worthy investment. Find a modeling agency in your area and request for an appointment. Before the appointment date, practice at home, making faces like seductive, sad, or happy. Read magazines and check out the pictures of the models. The staff of the agency will also measure your body and will watch you as you take a walk. Whatever the outcome is, accept it and don’t forget to say thank you.

The Good Things

Education and training is not necessary as long as you qualify with the standards set by the modeling agency. You don’t have to be pretty or handsome to become a model but it’s a plus factor. Still, the most important of all is that you need to be photogenic. Check your past photos because only YOU can tell if you’re photogenic. Becoming a model is not that hard as long as you have the qualities of a competitive model and you will have a chance to earn $30,000 to $60,000 per year!
