@Ryan, it depends with the state. Give a call to city clerk office to make sure if you need any special permit for fish shop as it is counted under perishable food.

The space is 2400 sq ft. We have sheet rock walls and other adjacent tenants. Will there be any order ect.? We have no knowledge in this area. The party is willing to meet our requests.

I have been in the aquarium hobby for over 10 years now working with fresh and saltwater. I'm looking into starting a 2500 sq foot aquarium store in houston tx. My partner and i would be doing 60% freshwater and 40% saltwater. We would like to get a business plan template, and any information on needed permits we would have to secure aside from a DBA. Our budget is around $100k. Thanks!

Hello, I am Dusan from Serbia. I am working in one of the largest fishponds in region. The annual carp fish production in our ponds is more then 3500 tons, but the main problem is to find a buyer. Recently, we are interested to launch live carp fish, or fish fillets on European market. So, if you have information that would help me to find potential buyers? Thanks in advance...

Hello, to help all those that are wanting to start a fish biz...it is very simple, and I am opening up one with less than $3,000...as my specialty is show quality bettas. All you really need is to get your business plan in order, especially if you want to lease a building. I suggest starting off with an e-commerce for a year or two, to see how you like it before investing into leasing a building and all the supplies you'll need. It differs from state to state, but the basics you'll need are your EIN which is FREE to obtain thru IRS website. Then you'll need to check with your city hall, just give them a call. Most likely you'll just need a business license, or a seller's permit...if leasing, you'll need your occupancy permits and in some states a pet store license. All permits and licenses will cost you between $150-300 or more depending on your state. Just be sure when you lease, to go ahead and pay in advance your first 2 months for your lease so you won't need to worry about it for the first 2 months. Also, don't forget to get insurance to cover your products and liability to cover any accidents. Any questions, please feel free to contact me. vangsplakat@yahoo.com, I am located in Milwaukee, WI. My store is Vang's Plakat Aquaria

I am an aquarist for last 30 years and have gained lots of experience by way of breeding and installations of aquariums. Today I can easily suggest a novice to take such easy steps for opening a new aquarium shop under my guidelines which surely kick start his business with sure profits and even a prospective client base which is readily available but needs to be tabbed and searched. Later this is such a business that it creates a chain system if your approach towards customer is imparting knowledge and providing services when required.Anybody in India can approach me for franchisee or set-ups on my e-mail.tropicanafishaquarium1966@gmail.com

Hi there - I have over 22 years of experience running and owning saltwater and aquarium stores. I am also versed in freshwater as well. I currently have my South Florida saltwater store up for sale as I am re-locating. The store is a staple in our area with many huge mother colonies of many varieties of LPS corals in a giant reef system that I frag regularly. Our service department and aquarium installation are a great business here as well. If anyone would be interested please call 754-234-6796 or email reefsedge@comcast.net. I also offer services on educating and training on how to successfully set up and run your aquarium business. Pictures of the store are available upon request (please provide your email address). Thanks - Mark

Hi, me and a friend are looking at building a large outhouse at my mums, and begin selling saltwater fish and coral. we both have a very strong interest in these types of fish, and both have large tanks at our own homes. i just wondered, with it not being a 'Shop' as such, do we need a license? also any other info would be greatly accepted. Thanks
