Healthier Menu for KFC Customers

Restaurant Chain Wants to Attract Health-Conscious Eaters

Summary: To change its marketing strategy and attract more health-conscious consumers, the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) said it will introduce additional healthy foods and use canola oil as a replacement for trans fat which has been found to cause obesity, diabetes, and other diseases.

Meanwhile, the restaurant chain has recently introduced grilled chicken to the US which has been widely-accepted by most consumers.

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) announced its new plan to introduce healthier menu to its consumers who are becoming more health-conscious.

In a statement, Restaurant Brands, which owns KFC and other popular  chains such as Pizza Hut and Starbucks, said the company will shift to healthier menu including grilled chicken and low calorie dishes.

The fast food company also said it is using canola oil for cooking instead of trans fat which has been found to increase the risk of coronary heart disease, obesity, liver dysfunction, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and infertility.

Because of the negative effects to health, some states and cities have already banned the use of trans fat for large fast food chains. However, some jurisdiction passed a law that only requires restaurants to reduce the level of the unsaturated fat in its food.

In a statement, Restaurant Brands CEO Russel Creedy said KFC’s grilled chicken promo has been very successful in the US and Australia.

Creedy said the company will introduce more dishes that will be healthier, adding that this new marketing strategy will also allow KFC to become more successful and popular among consumers both in the US and abroad.
