Starting a Coffee House Business

There is definitely a wide market for coffee houses because millions of people love to drink coffee.

Starting a coffee house business is something that most people would want to be a part of.

Over the last two decade coffee houses has increased its number. Thanks to the world famous Starbucks and Seattle’s Best, etc. Many people love to drink coffee, it perks up their every waking hours. Before going to their offices many people would drop by coffee houses for a cup of hot brewed espresso.

If you are thinking of starting your own coffee house here are some basic information’s you might need before you can operate one.

  • Plan. It is the best way to start any business venture. Brainstorm with your partners if you are starting the business via partnership. There are ready templates available in the market. This will be easier for you and your partners rather than starting from scratch. If solely investing in the business it is best that you hire a professional to help you come up with a sound business plan.
  • Create a mission and a vision for your coffee house business and stick to your mission and vision.
  • Know how much start-up capital you will need to invest in the business. If you have do not have the need capital you can opt to apply for a loan. There are banks that offer no-collateral loans to small and medium enterprise. You will just have to sign some papers and present your business plan to them.
  • Scout for a good location to start your coffee house business
  • Prerequisite to a business are the licenses and permits required to run a business.
  • Equipments and supplies are a foremost consideration. Must equipments are: espresso machines, grinders, airpot/thermal brewers, decanter brewers, tea brewers, coffee decanters, Panini grills, airpots, vita mix blenders, paper/water filters, microwave ovens etc. Scout for the best manufacturers of equipments needed in your coffee house. Where do you get your supplies of coffee beans? Look for suppliers that have different kinds of coffee beans and choose which of them offers the best deals.
  • Plan your food and menu. Offer different kinds of pastries to go with your different kinds of coffees such as lattes, brewed, iced etc.
  • Develop good customer rapport. Distribute “frequent customer” cards. Use customer feedback as a gauge on what to improve in your coffee house.
  • Hiring of employees. This is another foremost in any kind of business venture. Hire employees that are educated and trained to do this kind of job. Treat your employees as family to avoid theft and dishonesty.
  • Finally, make a weekly inventory for easier monthly inventory. This will also be easier when doing your yearly accounting and auditing procedure.
