Good Name for a Restaurant

A restaurant?s name can be just plain and simple. It could simply be after its site. The location can highlight tourist spots in the vicinity.

For example if the restaurant?s location is near ruins, then naming it after that historic relation and deciding to call the restaurant simply The Ruins would make it easier for customers and guests to remember the name just by associating it with the nearby spot.

The French Laundry, a well-known restaurant in California, was named after the fact that the restaurant’s site was once where the French steam laundry in the 19th century was located.

The theme of what the restaurant is based on could also be the source of a good name. Chinese restaurants usually adhere to this. Names like The New Great Wall, Huat Chan, Four Seasons, and China town are just some examples of restaurant names that are unmistakably Chinese. The type of food served is the basis for names like these. It would definitely be confusing if you are serving Chinese food and call your restaurant Giovanni’s.

You could also opt for a name with a personal meaning. Sometimes owners name the restaurants after them or after someone that is dear to them as their kids, grandchildren, or even after their grandparents! They may be the ones who have influenced you into opening your own restaurant. Naming restaurants with personal meanings can of course be shared with the public. Who doesn’t love a good story, right?

There are also restaurants with names derived from just a simple play on words! Fun names that may not have a thing to do with the theme or menu served in that certain restaurant often have good name recalls to the customers and are easily passed on. The restaurant Spago, by a famous celebrity chef, has a name that actually means spaghetti in Italian slang but the restaurant has nothing to do with Italian spaghetti. The restaurant’s specialty is serving a fusion of Mediterranean and Californian cuisine. The name was great but was just a play on words!

Finally, the most important thing to consider for a good restaurant name is to avoid trademarked names. If you have a similar last name to that of an already established chain like McDonald's then you should really think twice about naming the restaurant after you. Not only will it be confusing to potential customers but it will also lead you into legal troubles. We all know you wouldn’t like that!

Good restaurants have names that are recognizable, fancy, and most importantly, easy to remember. A restaurant’s name is a very important thing to consider. It is just as important as the dishes you are going to serve. It mirrors the restaurant’s theme, location, or the kinds of food being served. A good restaurant name should have a name recall and a good impression on the customers. Usually, a restaurant is named after a personal meaning, a play on words, its location, or its theme. The usual trademarked names should be avoided.
