How to Start a Fudge Business

If you feel having fun each time you make some fudge, then it is about time you try to earn from your passion all at the same time.

If your fudge really taste well that your friends and families start to ask for recipes, then it is time to consider a fudge business of your own.

Any seasoned housewife can make fairly delicious fudge by herself. However, not any housewife can make a successful business out of it. Some signs that your homemade fudge is unique and saleable is if it is requested every time you have a party in your house or if you are going to someone else’s party and they ask a favor of you to bring your “famous” fudge. If you keep getting similar requests, then maybe you should think about making money out of your labor.

Getting the Paperwork Done

In every business, there is a registration process to abide to. There are taxes and permits you should accomplish. Every state or county has specific laws regarding a put up of a new business so you should be familiar with that as well. Since selling fudge would put you in the food and beverage industry, you will need to apply and pass certain food safety inspection. You cannot just make your fudge anywhere; your kitchen should be approved and should pass even the most basic of standards required by the governing regulatory body. Another important document you should accomplish is the registration of your business.

Purchase of Materials and Ingredients

You are no longer baking fudge for your family or for a group of friends; instead, you are going large-scale. You will need to buy your ingredients in packs now. Instead of purchasing sachets or a single carton, you will need to buy ingredients in sacks and gallons. In order to save up on your start up cost, buy directly from a wholesale supplier. You will get cheaper ingredients from them as compared to buying in your local grocery store. If you do not know any wholesale supplier in your area, just ask from restaurants in your vicinity. Aside from the ingredients, you will also need to buy the packaging of your brownies. You can have a simple cellophane or you can package it in cute little gift boxes.

Marketing and Promotions

Your product needs to stand out from the rest of the competition so you have a better chance in surviving the business. Identify the strong point or the selling point of your fudge and capitalize on it. If you are an expert in designing, make your fudge designs artistic and unique so it has a customer recall. If you have a secret chocolate ingredient, capitalize on that. Now, the best way to market and promote your product is by joining fairs and festivals. You can also build a website and sell your products online.
