Starting a Poultry Processing Plant

The Things You Need to Start a Poultry Processing Plant

Summary: One of the most lucrative businesses you can set up is a poultry processing plant. Poultry is eternally demand. However, since they are food products, poultry also need to be processed properly before they are delivered to their buyers.

Poultry processing plant does that. Find out how you can start one and take advantage of that demand.

Poultry is a very attractive business. There will always be a demand for poultry and livestock since people consume them for food. What’s more, big-name clients like fastfood chains as well as restaurants both big and small require a steady supply of poultry in order to use for the meals that they serve.

However, before poultry can be delivered to their clients, they still need to be processed and made ready for delivery. Poultry processing is when the chickens and other livestock fowl are slaughtered, cleaned up and made ready to be cooked or to be sold to their respective recipients. Fortunately, it is quite easy and systematic to start a poultry processing plant.

There are two types of poultry processing: the small-time and the big-time. Small-time poultry processing need none of the industrialized or specialized equipment that bigger plants use. However, if you plan to go on a high production processing plant, you would need to use that equipment in order to automate and make efficient the processing. Here are some of the things that you will need in order to start a poultry processing plant.

Automated Killing Equipment

In a large scale poultry processing plant, chickens should be killed quickly so that production is speedy. There is none of the manual slaughtering in a big-time plant. That is why you need automated killing equipment so you can achieve that efficient production you need to maintain. Killing equipment would include specialized conveyors, killing tunnels, stunning knives and killing cones.

Picking Equipment

Poultry processing would also include picking or plucking. In this part of the process, the bird is plucked clear of its feather so that it can be skinned later on. There are many types of automated picking equipment. It is, however, to your advantage to choose an automated picker that can minimize or even eliminate the incidence of bruising to the product as this will certainly affect its quality.

Eviscerating Equipment

Eviscerating is the process in which the bird is “gutted:” that is, they are opened up and the internal organs taken out, except for the kidney. You can see now that it is a very tedious and time-consuming task. However, automating this process can greatly enhance and speed up your processing capacities making you capable of greater amounts of output and thus increasing your income. That’s what automated eviscerating equipment is for.

Chilling Equipment

Last but not the least is chilling equipment. Chilling equipment makes sure the chickens and other poultry birds are stored and kept from being spoiled as time passes by from transporting to delivery at the recipient’s door.
