    This message is for everyone looking to start a home health agency business: Starting a business of this sort takes time, knowledge and money. You cannot establish a home health agency anywhere in the country for less than $50,000 (with medicare certification and skilled services). Some states allow you to establish the business from a residential address, and other states require a commercial address. There are different variables that affect your total investment cost which includes, but is not limited to, Administrator, DON, Alternate Admin, Alternate DON, other staff members, office rent, office set-up, etc. Not every situation is the same and this is why some people will need $50,000 and others need $98,000 to invest in this project. Of course, there are people that might need to spend anywhere in between the numbers I mentioned. Right now, for the month of August, we are offering a 25% discount from our regular rates for our services. This promotion is for home health only. We do assist in other provider types such as Adult Day Care Centers, ALFs, CORFs, ORFs, DMEs, Pharmacies, etc. Feel free to contact us for further information at discounted rates through the end of August.

    hi, I'd like to ask more info on starting a home health agency. It is not so common here in the Philippines, thus, it's hard to ask info from here. I'm a nurse with a masters degree and have worked as a hospital nurse and a clinical instructor but I resigned from work 2 years ago after giving birth to my first child. Now, I want to venture into business using what I learned since I'm kind of hesitant to go back to a hospital job which gives me a pay that is minimum. Well, I'm just being practical since I already have a family on my own. There are a lot of unemployed nurses here in our country and I was thinking maybe i can do some help on that problem with this business. I'm not really a business minded person and so, I would be very glad if you could give me advice on how to make this possible.

    Hello Ms @Lilian Bello, This is an interesting website and you are a seasoned consultant based from this thread. I've read your postings back from 2011, and the trend was the same. Someone is needing a help starting a home care business. I for one,is also considering this endeavor. But I can help but ponder, how many people are desiring this kind of business, and how many indeed became successful in the home care. Starting maybe could be the easiest part as I read through your common advice to all of us. But, how we maintain it, and keep it rolling right after the set-up is maybe the biggest challenge. Maybe that is why you are in market (consultancy). Well, to be specific as to why I am writing you is to explore basic information as well about home care business. Assuming we,(I'm putting you as a one of my resources here) are done with putting up business plan, license,forms, manuals, variables including cost and physical set up of the office. Then, how long will it take to generate real business. Again, I remember about the marketing side of it. Check hospitals, referrals, etc. etc. Then how about the supply of caregivers, who are the most important component of home care. When is the time of recruitment? Their insurances, mark-ups, bonuses, training, incentives to attract workers come to this industry and stay. Also, I have to clarify your estimation of $50K start up for non-medical type. As I do my quick calculation, $50K will probably bring me up to three months financially sound standing only. This is based on the assumption that I will be also the Administrator, Marketing person, and Office Manager as the same time. I could hire 1 RN as a per diem basis since I need one to open the case. Two people will be good to share office coordination, billing, payroll, and act as my assistants as well. How about if the license will take 9-12 months to be done? My thought is wild since I am not convinced to have loans, and run my whole life savings just to be ended unsuccessful. Oh! my intended area is New York, Queens, Long Island, and neighboring vicinity. Did you not mention it takes time, knowledge and money to run a business. Well, I think home care needs more that. Maybe it takes God and calling to have one that is absolutely operational. Thank you.

    Hello Friends, I am Deborah. an African American who lived almost all my life in USA until last year when I moved back to Africa. I run a non profit charity organisation called Orphans Love World and what we do is cater for orphans all around Africa. We assist them in every aspect like education, good health care as well as providing the basic needs which they lack like food, shelter, clean water and clothing. Its people like you with a good heart who has supported us to make us achieve our goals. I will like to use this medium to seek for your kind assistance in order to continue this good work and put smiles on the faces of these helpless orphans. We do not consider any donation as being too small. Whatever you can give will surely go a very long way in giving these orphans more hope for a bright future. If you wish to assist us with a donation of any amount, please email us at orphansloveworld@inbox.com. God will richly bless you and your household.

    @Angela Fields,

    1. would I need to Hire an RN Full-time ?No. You need an RN as a Director of Nursing during the start-up.

    2. Can a LPN/LVN perform any of the job duties( home visits, charting, on-call etc.)? Yes. An LPN can do home visits, perform duties, do charting, etc under the supervision of an RN. However, an LPN cannot conduct admission/discharges. An LPN cannot do supervisory visits on other staff members such as Home Health Aides or CNAs.

    3. How are RN's paid is it by the hour or Per visit etc. Usually it is per visit.

    4. what is the typical pay rate for both RN's and LPN/LVN doing this type of job in Minnesota? Around $30/hour

    5. What is the typical cost associated with opening a Home Health agency verses opening a non-medical home care agency? Around $60,000

    @Joyce Thomas,

    Good morning, There are two costs to a home health startup. Cost #1 is liquid investment and cost #2 is the contingency funding. Liquid investment is the operational money you will need to establish the business, and this amount varies with whether or not you will have a commercial office or start from the home. The contingency funding you will need is money left in a bank account during the process of Medicare certification. This amount varies by location and it is between $50,000 - $98,000 for what I have seen from other clients. I am estimating Illinois to be around $70,000. These funds you will not use, as it will just sit in an account. The liquid funding you will need is an estimate of $50,000. I hope this answered your question, feel free to give us a call at 786.612.0738 when you are ready to begin the process so we may guide you from beginning to end. We also do franchising and sales.

    Have a blessed day!
