    Hi i am from Haldwani, a fast growing city in Uttarakhand (Distt Nainital). hence there are no such good multiplex in city so i was interested in opening that. my plans was to open multiplex with minimum of 3 screens with 3D facility. so could you help me out in suggesting that should i go for any franchise or shall i open my independent multiplex. PLS HELP ME OUT WITH THE MINIMUM LAND REQUIRED AND ABOUT THE BUDGET..... I feel that response from the people will be great.

    @MANISH PANDEY, Indeed there is a great business prospect in Haldwani. you can also get subsidy from Govt in UK. Land requirement=4000 Sq Mt you have to build the basic structure of about 10 to 12 thousand Sq ft. fit out can be done by either a franchisee or you can invest in fit out also the cost is approx 70 lac per screen.     Hello, I have a cinema hall in guawahati, assam which is around 30 yrs old. but because of upcoming multiplexes in the city, I find a drastic cut down in the number of audiences and hence the sale. Pls advice me a way in which i can regain the number of audience as investing a huge amount is difficult since the price of ticket is very difficult to be raise in such place. Thanks Rohit

    Hi @Rohit, I think Mudit is right, since if you want to attract more audience you will have to give them a choice to select movie from at least 3.. In this case you can reduce the number of seats for each screen, also you should consider including eateries, convenient shops, etc to make it a place for family entertainment and leisure.

    @SUNIL Cinema halls can be build in Very small Budget starting from Rs 10000/- per seat. However if we build a economy model cinema then we will be missing out on some basic amenities such as Air conditioning, proper acoustics etc. For a Suburban area, where ticket prices cant be over 30/- 40/- Rs economic model of cinema can be worked out. For urban areas we should develop modern cinema having all the luxuries. for which the budget shall be any where between 30000/- to 40000/- per seat. Mudit

    thanks, in our area there are two theaters, one is very old & other one is new with 125 seats. in our town population is 30000 people. we have 22000 sq. ft.land near old theater. in new theater when we go for watching film there will be no tickets also advance booking is at 10 am. it is always full show.

    @MOHIT AGARWAL First you have to select your location, if it is in a local area where there is no cinema then you can get a video cinema license(benefit is: Entertainment tax is very low) If you build a cinema (single screen) in a city or area where there is already a cinema then you should have at least 1000 sq yd of land on which cinema has to be built.     @ramesh, The cost of multiplex fit out is Rs 25000/- per seat. so for 400 seat cinema You require 100 lacs for fit out and for construction of building you require additional 600 Rs per sq ft so for 10000 sq ft multiplex area another 60 lac Rs. You have to esquire if there any subsidy scheme in karnataka for relevant authorities.

    @jitin garg, @mihir.m, Himachal pradesh is a tax free zone, so multiplex are very successful there. if you have land & building then you can construct a 3 screen multiplex by involving a Cinema operator . Operator will invest in fitout and shall pay you revenue share.. If you want to manage cinema on your own then the cost of fitout shall be Rs 28000/- per seat. For food court the kitchen equipment , the average cost is about 15 to 20 lac plus accessories.

    Dear Sir, I am writing from Karachi Pakistan. Plz help me in making a cinema hall. the area will start from roof top, & will demolish all the shops made on top floor which is 7th floor. There are no pillars in the area given below. The area is 64ft long x 50 ft wide. the refreshment area is around 50ft wide into 25 ft deep. we think there is a space for nearly 200 seats.     There are certain query regarding Small cinema which i want to clarify.

    Q.Land requirement for Small cinema 50 to 100 seater single screen.
    A.every cinema has to be constructed as per building bye laws prevalent in that particular state. Normally we have to leave 20Ft set back on all sides for Fire tender. So for small cinema also minimum 1000 sq mt land is required.

    Q Is there any other option
    A. you can take space in a large project i.e. it can be a part of any mall where you take space for small 50/60 seat cinema.

    Q. Working area for single screen cinema
    A. You require about 2200 sq ft for Audi for 100 to 150 seats. the height of the audi has to be minimum 15 ft. apart from audi you require space for Booking office, toilets and cafe and waiting area.

    Q. Cost of Building?
    A. Building cost is aprox 500 to 600 Rs per Sq ft

    Q. Cost of Cinema equipment
    A. the cost of cinema equipment depends upon the facility you want to give to your Audience. For a good Air-conditioned cinema having push back seats and good interiors the cost is aprox 28000 per seat. For No frills cinema the cost can go down to 20000 per seat.

    Q 3D equipment
    A. 3D technology is very expensive, you require silver screen, polarized lens and 3D glasses for normal 3D projection. However now 2K digital projectors are used for 3D reproduction. the cost of 2K digital projector is aprox 2500000 plus 3D kit is another 800000. 3D is suggested only at those places where the spending power is high and ticket of over 150/- are affordable.

    Q. single screen or multiplex
    A. Around 300 Hindi films are released every year plus regional language films are also released. if you have only 1 single screen cinema than you have to miss out to the major chunk of releases. further more there is no surety that you get the HIT film . so it is now strongly recommended that you should have at least 2 screens.

    hello mudit i want to start a cinema, i am thinking of a 2 screen multiplex with 100-150 seats each. i want it to be a high end facility . How much land in square feet should i be looking for? Want ur advice to what seperates an OK cineplex from a HIGH END cineplex. What sort of facilities are req, and what is the approximate cost in $ dollars we should be looking at. If possible kindly provide a break up of cost , like the auditorium/building cost, mechanical & air conditioning cost , seating cost , cinema specific mechanics cost , finishing cost etc.

    @MOBI FOR HIGH END CINEMA , YOU NEED SPACE FOR EACH FACILITY, SO APROX 8000 SQ FT OF SPACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR 100 SEAT CINEMA. IN A HIGH END CINEMA THERE ARE RECLINER SEATS, FOOD TABLES, SUPER HIGH QUALITY OF ACOUSTICS ARE DONE PLUS THE STAFF HAS TO BE COURTEOUS.. ITS THE SAME DIFF AS OF A 2/3 STAR HOTEL AS COMPARED TO 5 STAR HOTEL. THE COST OF INTERIORS IS ABOUT 900$ PER SEAT FOR HIGH END CINEMA.

If there is no cinemas then it would be best to open a minimum 2 screen multiplex with seating capacity of 200 each.     @rajni, You need 25000 sq ft of covered space for cinema. you can find the same in either a under-construction mall or you should have  enough land to construct the same. the cost of building is aprox 600/- INR and Rs 30000/- INR per seat for interiors Sound and projection etc.
