Start Your Ringtone Business

Hi! I am about to start a ringtone business for my community world wide. What suggests u guys might have for me. My partner has the copyrights to all the songs in our community. The question that I have is how easy is to get this large cell phone companies to accept our ringtones.

There are couple ways to start this business but don't target to cell your ringtones to the top companies from day one.

- Don't give free download option on your web site. Normally companies filter all those sites. Charge very less initially and give the quality service.

- When you get popular then approach to the branded service providers to accept your ringtone and get paid for it.

- This market is very saturated; you will find lots of competition.

What are the first steps to get started .. What do i do? Is there a web site..

I’m seriously thinking of getting into the ringtone business in Africa, where i come from nobody offers this service, but people just get the ringtones through the internet in various sites & the majority of cell phone owners do not have access to the internet. My question is where do i get the ringtones from? My other question is how can i sell ringtones without the client having to use the internet? Let’s say i advertise my product on the local TV channels, radio, newspapers etc. Is there an easier way to do this at touch of a button?

Hi, If you want to start a Ringtone Business, unless you have Copyright permissions, Major Provider Access Permissions, and 10-15k spending budget then i wouldn't think about starting a Ringtone Business. There's a lot of "Bootleggers" out there and they will eventually have trouble with the feds and owe a lot of money. I would suggest to contact a Recording Label and the Artist to show them a Demo of your Product. That should get you in the door, but Advertising on the internet to sell ringtones is very illegal if you aren't the one who made the music.
