RIM to install Torch Mobile Browser for BlackBerry Devices

Summary: Top interface browsers for BlackBerrys are now on the way as Research in Motion, the developer of the popular Smartphone, acquired the service of Torch Mobile to develop top-of-the-line browsers for its mobile devices.

To date, BlackBerry Smartphones remain the top choice among consumers.

Canada-based Research in Motion (RIM), the developer of the popular BlackBerry Smartphones, on Tuesday announced that it has acquired the mobile browser developed by Torch Mobile to help the company to focus on the interface enhancements of it mobile devices.

In a statement, RIM said that the new browsers for the BlackBerry device will help the company to strengthen its own offering to the consumers and even lift the sales for the Smartphones.

RIM Spokesperson Marisa Conway said that the merger will be effective immediately with a number of Torch Mobile employees joined the software development team of the RIM. She added that the expertise of both team will help in the development of a WebKit-based mobile browser technology.


Conway said that the browser is just one part of the ongoing development and innovative enhancement for the BlackBerry device, particularly its platform.


Torch Mobile, one of the leading open-source web browser developers based in Beijing, China, has designed and developed free the free mobile Web browser for Windows, WindowsCE, QTopia. The browser is called Iris.


Conway said that with the help of Torch Mobile, RIM will be able to fill out gaps that are necessary for the company if it wants to take more shares in the Smartphone market.
