Police Sets Autopsy for Madoff Associate

Florida-- Palm Beach County Police Department on Sunday said that it will conduct an autopsy to the remains of Jeffry Picower, the associate of billionaire Bernard Madoff, who was found dead at the bottom of the pool at his oceanside mansion on Sunday. He was 67 years old.

Based on the police report, Picower’s wife Barbara found him sprawling at the bottom of the pool at his Palm Beach mansion. Rescuers were able to take him to the nearby hospital.

However, the man accused of raking over $7 billion dollars off the investment on Ponzi scheme masterminded by Madoff, died while undergoing treatment at the nearby Good Samaritan Medical Center about 1:30 p.m.

Police will conduct the autopsy test on the remains of Picower to see if there was a foul-play over the drowning incident.His wife said that Picower had earlier suffered from Parkinson’s disease and had several heart-related medications due to his worsening health condition.

Picower was among the Forbes Top 400 wealthiest Americans, with a net worth of more than a billion dollars.It will be recalled the Picower was being tagged as the biggest beneficiary of the investment fraud masterminded by Madoff. With his death, legal counsels handling his case said that it would be difficult for suing investors to take back their money.

Meanwhile, trustee Irving Picard assured other investors that the litigation will continue despite the death Picower.
