Cellphone Giant to Enter Mini-Laptop Arena


Summary: World's largest cellphone maker Nokia on Monday said that it will now enter the mini-laptop arena as it bares plans to launch the new ultra-portable "Booklet 3G," which they claim is far better and cheaper than any other netbooks in the market today.

World's largest mobile phone manufacturer, Finland-based Nokia on Monday announced that it will soon join the mini-laptop market as it is set to launch the new "Booklet 3G," which is an ultra-portable computing device that is cheaper and far better than any other netbooks in the market today.

Weighing just 1.25 kilograms or 2.8 pounds, the new Booklet 3G is one of the lightest laptops that will ever come out of the production line. It also has a thin frame measuring on two centimeters or three-quarters of an inch.

In a statement issued on Monday, Nokia executives said that the new mini-laptop will run under Microsoft Windows OS and would last more than 12 hours in one full charge.

According to technology experts, Nokia’s move was part of the business plan that would help the company to increase profits as mobile phone sales decline. It will be recalled that Nokia and Sony Ericsson suffered huge losses due to the recession.

Meanwhile, Nokia’s executive vice president kai Oistamo said that they shift to the computer market was based on the study conducted by the company showing that the number of people wanting their computer devices to be more portable and powerful.

The Nokia executive said that the recession has made it clear that it is necessary for them to evolve in order for them to survive. During the first few months of the recession, a study showed that consumers have deterred a significant number of people from buying regular cell phones.

But the study also showed the huge shift into Smartphones like the iPhone and Blackberry.
