New Study Shows Older People Struggle to Find JobJobless Workers Aged 55 up Has Lower Employment Rate than Those Aged 55 downSummary: The US Labor Department said on Friday that people near retiring age find it hard to look for another job after they loss their previous work amid economic recession. People are now resorting to strategies and tactics to make their resume appealing to employers.
A recent report by the US Labor Department showed that more and more people aged 55 and up is struggling to break age barrier as employers try to look for younger more versatile employees in their arsenal. Older people without work, according to the report, are now taking their chances and resorting to different game plans just to find a replace to the job that they lost during the economic recession. Reports also told that the number of unemployed workers, 55 or older, is now jobless for more than 30 weeks. Meanwhile, those under age 55 are only jobless at an average of 21 weeks. The Labor Department pointed to the recession as the culprit, saying that it has widened the gap for people who are jobless. In 2006, the average number of weeks that these people remained jobless only stands at six weeks. Attempts to make themselves look younger on resumes and during personal interviews are now being done just so they can have a job. People are now reducing years off their resumes and years of experience while others even resort to Botox injections and other age rejuvenation process before their interviews. The current economic crisis posted a big difference in the jobless rate of 55-year olds. It rose to more than seven percent in June, the highest since 1948. COMMENT
