Software giant Microsoft Corp, on Wednesday announced that it will be cutting some 800 workers as part of its reduction plan, which aimed to cut about 5, 000 jobs by June 2010. In a statement, Microsoft said that the job cuts were part of the cost reduction, area management, and efficiency development of the company. The company also said that it will implement the job cuts across multiple businesses and locations around the world. “With the latest slash in the workforce of the company, we are now looking ahead in improving our business plan more and the reduction plan will be at hand sooner than what we have anticipated since we have announced our plans 11 months ago,” the statement added. “This is the end of the effort that was earlier announced by our CEO, Steve Baller in January,” Microsoft spokesman Lou Gellos said, adding that they will now continue to acquire new work force in priority areas where business is doing good. The total layoff since January has reached 91, 005 employees, the largest job cut in Microsoft’s history. It will be recalled that Microsoft has reported a 14 percent or $12.92 billion decline in its third quarter profit. It was also the third straight quarter that the software developer slipped in the charts. But Microsoft is now aiming for better numbers after the release of its highly anticipated Windows 7 operating system.
