- I have a school in Tangent, Oregon, I have been in the process of obtaining my Career School License from the State of Oregon for the past 6 months, I have invested $30,000 cash into it so far, I had a truck and necessary equipment I have used in my trucking company needed to start. I have been waiting since May 2013 for the License. I have 35 years experience OTR and have had my own authority since 1994. After my license gets approved I then need to be certified by the DMV as a Commercial Driver Instructor, to receive this you have to take all written and driving tests and pass with an 85%. This is a long and demanding process, Oregon has 8 steps starting with business plan, curriculum, standards and competences, program map, etc... this is not an easy process to go through, I am also been registered as a S-Corporation, so if anyone thinks you can just get a truck and trailer and start teaching think again. You should be able to obtain the info you need for your state by googling it or just start with your state website. If you cant figure out how to get started you shouldn't be in this. It will take a lot of paper work and creative thinking. I hired a Curriculum specialist with a PHD in Education that writes Curriculums for Oregon State University and it took her 135 hours just to help me with the lesson plan that is over 2 reams of paper!
