Canada Is In Need Of a New Business BrandNew Business Brand is What Canada NeedsSummary: If Canada wants to get success with its business brands like other countries, they need to consider innovation and technology. They should act now in order for them not to be on the downward trend. Wednesday, in Toronto, business leaders stated at the Economic Edge Conference that Canada appear to be one of the weaker countries if it will not do things that can enhance its overseas image and seek for new niche in this changing global market.
Trish Wheaton, the chief marketing officer of the global marketing agency Wunderman and chairperson of its Canadian arm stated that the Canada news these days are not good, Canada is now always on the chopping league. She added that investors today are going with the emerging markets since the current Canada’s image is not the right brand to catch business. She also stated that Canada’s tourism image needs to stand under a strong brand, its image needs to be as intelligent and business savvy in which it will set apart from the other countries. Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Toyota are brands that consumers identify with its country of origin, Trish Wheaton stated. Surveys showed that the Canada’s strongest brands which are BlackBerry, TD Bank and Cirque du Soleil are not being identified with Canada. The president of the University of Alberta, Indira Samarasekera stated that in education, Canada is being left behind from the other countries. Dr. Samarasekera added that “we are falling behind, so if we do not act now, we will be marginalized soon. Given with lots of natural resources, we are still underachiever”. Productivity gap of Canada is falling due to the lack of investment in education, Dr. Samarasekera stated. Nevertheless, there are some Canadian universities that are known outside of North America. Knowing the tough competition these days, Canada must learn to face competition in order to give what’s best. Canada must not let it be, don’t let the country be perceived on downward trend, she added. Canada must adapt the new global economy in order to it to obtain success. The president and chief executive officer of GE Canada, Elyse Allan stated that in order to gain continuous success, Canada must keep in mind innovation and technology. COMMENT
