Recession is Sending More and More Americans for Consultations and Support in the Internet

Summary: More than 80 percent of American adults are now turning to the internet for support following a long-running recession.

Most of the adult Americans are believe to be more anxious with their financial situation today than in previous years.

A new study conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project showed that 88 percent of Americans have turned into the Internet for advisories and support for their problems that was triggered by the present economic situation.

According to the study, more than three quarters of internet users in the US are searching or browsing the internet for advice on the recent state of the economy and even their personal economic outlook in the coming months.

Co-author of the report and Pew Internet director Lee Rainie said that American online users have become more “information-hungry” compared to the previous months when the economy is more stable.

To date, 79 percents Americans have access to the internet.

It is the first in many years that a recession lasted for more than a year. It is, likewise, the first time that people have wide spread access to the internet when a recession hit.

Meanwhile, Rainie, citing the study, said that more than 50 percent of 2, 253 American adults asked in the survey said that they have lost their jobs, have suffered cuts in their salaries, have falling investments, and even lose the value of their houses by more than half.

With this, they are turning to the web for advice as there are more job cuts expected these coming months.
