Agricultural Grants for Women

There are different kinds of grant opportunities readily available out there. They are often associated with dollars and usually come in all shapes and sizes. The financial support given to those farms and other farm related businesses is usually limited.

Many of the agricultural grants given to women in farming come in the form of livestock, services, leadership trainings, equipment and continuing education.

Government Resources

Since the population of women are not increasingly filling the different roles in the agriculture, the so called Farm Service Agency (FSA), provides the resources to encourage women to own and operate agricultural businesses. They offer programs that would educate them about the different ideas in agricultural business, as well as technical assistance and network opportunities to widen their skills. The FSA has their own website were you could find the different information you need to know about the programs they grant for women. The federal funding opportunities are posted on a daily basis in the Grants.gov site and there you will get many insights on how to avail those grants. You may subscribe to receive emails containing news and updates as well as the latest grants and loans given.

Heifer International

Heifer international is a non-profit organization that supports women and their families all across the globe to help them be provided with the things they need for their agriculture related businesses. Some of these are the animals and the education that a particular community needs in order to start their agricultural business. Those recipients of this grant receive not just the breeding livestock but also they are being trained by the organization in terms of how to take care of the animals and train them how to sustain the animals. Once these grants are given and the animals given to them have produced offspring already, these said recipients are bound to share the wealth they possess by sharing their own livestock and training. It is really a give and receive act. It is already known that Heifer had huge number of active projects in 27 different states in the US.

Agricultural Organizations

The involvement of women in different agricultural organizations gives them the power to become part of a large community of grower, should it be local, regional or national level. The American Agri-Women is founded in 1974. It is the well known national coalition of female growers and ranchers that usually provides leadership opportunities, scholarships and resources to the further education of the women growers all across the state. The Women’s Agricultural Network do grant discussions and educational workshops on different agricultural topics like “organic growing” and “business planning”. This organization is based in University of Vermont.

Conferences and Conventions

There are conferences and conventions sponsored by the local and national groups that provide a never ending resources and opportunities for farmers and ranchers. The scholarship and fee waivers are available for those who will attend the said conferences and conventions. Certain groups and organizations support this cause for further education for farmers and ranchers to enable them to run the agricultural business they have properly.

Trying to start my business but am resource "rich" (meaning the house I'm trying to finish, fix & sell)to be able to purchase property to start beyond the bloodlines of horses & dogs. I want to have enough property to board & grow hay for the animals I board as well as sell. "Phoenix Stables & Boarding" is my business name. Looking for property (20+ acres) in a half hour radius to my job in Elkhart, IN.
