Accusations Have No Merit - Toys "R" Us

Toys "R"¯ Us Belies Price Fixing Accusations

Summary: Giant toymaker Toys "R"¯ Us finally breaks its silence on Monday, belying accusations of price fixing charges against them.

The toy company also said that they are now discussing possible action on how they will present their side in court following the investigation of the FTC, adding that the lawsuit filed by the consumers and toy retailers "has no merit".

Toys “R” Us, the largest children and baby products manufacturer in the world, on Tuesday downplayed allegations of fixing the prices of its toys, saying that the investigation being conducted by the Federal Trade Commission has no merit.

In a statement, Toys “R” Us also said that it is prepared to defend itself in court, adding that they are cooperating with the FTC to clear their names over the issue. Earlier, the toy manufacturer earned the ire of the consumers following reports of over pricing in its products and manipulation of market competition among distributors.

For its part, the FTC refused to further comment on the case. However, lawyers representing the toy retailers and consumers said that they are more than ready to face Toys “R” Us in a court battle, saying that they have already provided the FTC important documents that would prove their allegations against the giant toymaker.

The case was filed more than three years ago. But the FTC has urged the representatives of both parties to consolidate the previous lawsuits into a single case. Also, the six toy retailers’ attorney Mary Jane Fait said that the involvement of the FTC in the case is a positive development for them, saying that attention is now being poured into the case.
