- Promote an image of trust. Make sure you back up your words with action. If you say you will do something, do it. If you commit to a deadline, commit to it. Your customers and suppliers must know that they can count on you to deliver. This is one sure way of attaining a high percentage of customer retention. Keep in mind that a truly satisfied customer will come back again and again and again.
- Keen marketing. Your business will not succeed if you don’t have customers hence you must exert extra effort in acquiring them. The first few months of operation are critical. Do whatever it takes to get the word out during this time. Make sure to focus your promotional and advertising efforts on your target market.
- Sufficient funds for start-up capital. You have to allocate money for operating expenses that may include rent payments, supplies, utilities, manpower, etc. You also have to allocate money for start up expenses like promotional and advertising cost, business permits and license, equipment, and so on. You can never be sure when your business will pick-up and earn a profit. Ideally, you should have at least six months worth of operating expense budget on hand.
- Technical and business expertise. It is a must for you to be knowledgeable in every aspect of your business. Acquaint yourself with the laws that may affect your operation, familiarize yourself with the latest market trends etc. Moreover, you must know your competition. Find out what their edge is and figure out ways to “out-edge” them.
- Time and hard work. There’s no room for slack and there are no short cuts. You must give your 100% all the time. You need to invest long arduous hours if you want to make a go of your business. Remember, your success is hugely dependent on how committed you are to making it succeed.
